Description

What do you do when two siblings born two years apart share the same birthday weekend? Have a gender neutral double birthday party, of course! Mom is owner of Tulips & Toadstools, a floral and event design company. She wanted to throw Griffin and Greta a joint birthday party at their home in Napa that celebrated Griffin’s third birthday and Greta’s first birthday that felt personalized to each individual child.

Morgan shared the following- “As an event and floral designer, I like to keep my own children’s parties simple. One of the main reasons why people hire me is because it can be difficult to enjoy your own party if you do all of the work yourself. I wanted to make things special, but didn’t want to do the over the top first birthday party that we did for my son. I just didn’t have the same amount of time to invest with two little ones running around like I did when Griffin was a baby.

Party Theme

Griffin is obsessed with the moon, rocket ships and the color orange, so creating our theme was easy. Adding fun mid-century decor elements put an original spin on a common party theme. I instantly loved the idea of a “Fly Me to the Moon” birthday party -a throwback to the era when man first walked on the moon instead of a traditional space theme. Making the party gender neutral was easy, we added flowers and lots of cute sparkly elements. Personally, I love the idea of a space theme for Greta’s first birthday party. Little girls should be pushed to love science just as much as boys!

Moon Pies and More

Little details are very important to me, so we had fun silver rockets and vintage spaceman cookies made. I’m a big fan of Sonoma bakery Crisp, who made our mini “moon pies” and “flying saucer” macaroons. Custom calligraphy signage from Miss Nibbit finished the look. Our friends absolutely loved our rocket party crackers -who knew fake mustaches would be such a big hit with kids and adults alike? My favorite detail is definitely our textured custom moon that framed our wood “Fly Me to the Moon” sign. My husband is an artist and had been building a 30ft moon for months, which may have been where Griffin’s moon obsession originated from. Our mini version had the same texture as the giant moon, but on a much smaller scale.

Decor and More

Having a fall birthday means that you have much shorter days for a post nap party. We took advantage of the early sunset by lighting up our yard and house with twinkle lights. I loved the way the lights lit up the sweets table on a cloudy day. When the California sun starts to set behind the mountains, the temperature starts to drop drastically. We hung a rocket ship in the middle of our living room to entertain the kids once the festivities moved inside. It was a huge hit! The birthday boy woke up with a really bad cold, so props to our Photographer Audrey Spear for capturing so many great shots! We had some very brave souls that happily ate that cake after Griffin blew out the candles!”
